The basics of good nutrition are something everyone knows something about, but very few follow all the guidelines for the basics of good nutrition. Fast food seems to be the norm, and a home cooked meal these days consists of something heated in the microwave.Basic good nutrition starts at the grocery store.You must be consious of what you are eating and buy the things you need for healthy living. A healthy lifestyle is what we are striving for. The more you know about the basics of good nutrition the easier it is to eat healthy. Eating healthy is not difficult if you know the basics of good nutrition and you have a plan and stick to it. ![]() Everyone knows fresh fruit and vegetables are good for us. But did you know that almost all fresh fruit and veggies have no fat, cholesterol or sodium? They are also rich in fiber and loaded with many nutrients such as calcium, iron and vitamin C. All of these things are important as we age to help build and keep a strong immune system. A low fat diet stimulates the immune system while a high fat diet lowers your resistance to disease. A few of the basics of good nutrition are stay away from fats, eat breakfast, snack smart, practice portion control and always think about what you are about to eat. Also drink lots of water. 8-10 glasses daily is recommended. Water not only helps control hunger it also will help hydrate the skin.Foods to avoid include anything with white flour,all processed foods,anything sugary, all fried foods, caffeine and alcohol. While it is never to late to start eating right and practicing good nutrition, it is great to start out kids eating healthy. Even kids understand the basics of good nutrition. Those of us that do understand the basics of good nutrition stand to live a much happier and more active life as we age. So if we do want to remain healthy and active as we grow older it is vital we practice what we know about the basics of good nutrition. |
